Katie's Huntington Memories

My Huntington House Memories.
1. Highlights. I thought it was so neat that mom taught us dance in our house with all our friends. Carrie and Natalie ditching once and getting in trouble.
2. Making haunted houses with KeriAnne and the Bagleys. YIKES!
3. Using that place on the chimmney that opened out by the back porch, as an "oven" to make mud pies. We used the old tins from potpies.
4. All of the programs we made mom and dad watch. We used the yellow and blue mat as a teepee in one play, and then we used the soundtrack to Stand by me, to make a concert. A hanger was my saxaphone.
5. Kevin, Wes, and the storage room. Mom that is funny!
6. KeriAnne and I sleeping with a highheel shoe by the window so if the house started on fire we could open the window and cut open the screen. I dont know how the boys would have gotten out. They didnt have heels.
7. Playing mail through the railing.

Katie, thanks for sharing! I don't know the storage room story. Please enlighten me. Kacie

Eleanor's 1st Birthday Party

Karen's Memories of the Huntington House

I decided not to read all of your blog entry, Kacie, until after I wrote this. If we have duplicates, that's why.

Your pictures made me miss our old house. I'm sure the sentimental song helped. Nice!

Here's what I remember most (right this second). I'll do it alphabetically, in honor of Ty's favorite book, "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life".

A. Ant hill: There was one ant hill which I spend hours trying to destroy. I don't remember who helped me (probably Kris). We would step all over it, build traps (which featured a half-eaten peach, Popsicle sticks & a water-filled Cool Whip bowl). I bet that hill is still there. Go on with your bad selves anties.

B. Bathroom: Going to the bathroom together. If we needed to poo (sorry, for being so foul, I mean poop, of course), we didn't want to be alone. There are only so many times you can read the shampoo & conditioner bottles. That's still true. Luckily for Micah, I have a bunch of magazines here.

C. Coal: Carrying coal down to fill the Stokermatic & cleaning out the "clinkers". I never peed on them like some people. . .

D. Dog: slamming one dog's head in our front door after it chased me into our house. Running over the Avery's dog, Gizmo, with my bike. (I'm sorry you nasty little fellow). Running in circles screaming while the (Ward's?) dog chased me until Dad came running & saved me (Thanks, Dad!), Finding a stray dog in the fields and "buying" it a bag of dog food on credit at the Mill (Sorry, Dad).

E. Earthquake: Being in an earthquake in our house when I was 10. At the time, I wished it would happen again. It was like a giant ride.

F. Fence: Putting a sock on the fence with Amy & Joan each time we started a new school. We couldn't believe that they were still there whenever it had been a while since we had seen them.

G. Graveyard: Remember that year there was some "devil-worshiper" rumor & a bunch of kids didn't go to school, but we did, even though we lived right there.

H. Huts: "The fields" was the perfect place for a hut. I'm pretty sure I built a new one every week.

I. I love Jairus: Writing that on the water towers out in the fields with the tar chunks. It's like those tar chunks were sent to us by an angel (I guess it was the angel of vandalism).

J. Junior High: Walking home from school with Amy, Joan, Charlene, Marcey, Shaffryn, Alayna & being chased by Mr. Arnold b/c he thought we were ditching. The thought of us ditching was just hilarious to us.

K. Kristy & Kimberly Yougart. I was so jealous of their names. They were cuter than Karen & still worked with the K tradition.

L. Lisa & Lori. The names LeAnn always wanted to give us when we were playing house. So wrong! Kristy & Kimberly were WAY better! Duh, LeAnn!

M. Making cookie dough as a snack for Kacie when mom wasn't home.

N. Never imagining that my "creative stupidity" would come back to bite me in the butt so hard.

O. Old Crap: I raced Shawn out in the fields & the stopping point was this old trailer. I won, but hurt myself on an old nail sticking out of the trailer.

P. Pool: Our own private swimming pool the summer it rained so hard & the water stayed in that dip out in the fields.

Q. Quit: I quit babysitting b/c I just couldn't stand Chandler Pearson & Jared Jenson any more.

R. Rocks: Picking rocks out of the garden for hours & hours.

S. Sledding down the "big hill".

T. Trampoline: Taking a nap outside under the little trampoline (propped up on its side) when I was supposed to be mowing the lawn & waking up to it hitting me in the face. Karma.

U. Ugly: Thinking I was really cute & realizing the truth years later.

V. Volunteer: Volunteering to help Shawn Corbridge help his dad load up broken rocks & cement from their driveway, secretly hoping his dad would pay me.

W. Walking to 7-11 to buy candy & Slurpees. (at least then I was walking it off--sleeping it off doesn't seem to work as well).

X. X Marks the spot: Playing with lizards & bugs we would find until they died & then burying them & having a funeral. "Here lies our beloved lizard, Larry, who was our best, but not hearty, tailless reptilian friend."

Y. Why: Why wasn't I a reader?

Z. ZZZZZZZZ Sneaking outside in the middle of the night to sleep in the club house by myself. The genius never ends.

Home Again

Okay people. Let's do something with this blog. What do you say? I would love to hear from all of you, so here is my plan. I've been thinking about life growing up in Huntington and thought it would be cool if we could all share some memories of life there. So, I'll start. These are just random memories of mine.

1. Roller skating in the basement when it was just a cement floor. I thought that I was the most rockin' roller skater on the planet and felt that I should share my "expertise" with my sisters. So, I was the instructor, teaching her students all kinds of sweet moves.

2. Taking gymnastics class from mom. Everytime I hear the song, "Breaking Up is Hard to Do", which isn't often, I think of those cool gymnastics mats that we had. I just wish that I could remember some of those moves.

3. Playing outside on our incredible dad-made playground. No one else had such an awesome backyard.

4. Trent asking me if he could kiss me at the front door and then kissing me for the first time.

5. Trent spilling Sprite all over himself when he fell down the stairs the day we got married.

6. Kevin stealing from my stash of Blo-Pops hidden in my closet and the incredibly proud moment for both Dad and I when we ran down the hill barefoot. That hurt. Good times.

7. Tickle/Scratch.

8. Chocolate chip cookie dough made from the recipe in our heads (okay, mostly Karen's head), which we kept under our bed for what seemed like weeks, though it was probably only a couple of days. Amazingly we never got sick from the raw eggs. What were we thinking?

9. Tending 6 bratty brothers and sisters and trying to keep Kris from killing everyone by wrestling him, literally. That only worked until he was about 10 and then he was stronger than me.

10. Playing for hours in the fields. I remember the summer that it rained and filled up the middle of the "track" and we went swimming in it. (Karen and I were talking about that just the other day.) I loved to ride my BMX bike and go off jumps. I was awesome on that thing.

11. Mom staying up late to talk to just me. She had this sixth sense and could always tell when something was wrong. I loved that.

12. Mom coming down and announcing to all my friends that "the Holy Ghost has gone to bed and so should you" at midnight. That was not at all embarassing.

13. My brilliant plan to ride Ahab while home alone. That one backfired dramatically, twice!

14. Cheese in a wallet.

15. Saige scribbling all over Kody's passport with a Sharpie just before he left for his mission. Sorry again, Kody.

16. Playing the "Go Tell it on the Mountain" duet with KeriAnne over and over.

17. All us girls singing around the piano.

18. Cupcake and all her descendents.

19. Karen kissing Jeremiah when she was only 5. (Hope that wasn't a secret.)

20. Sleeping out on the trampoline. One particular sleepout sticks out in my memory. When Megan and I slept under the tramp and Katie, Karen and KeriAnne slept on the tramp. Megan and I woke up in the middle of the night to a lovely waterfall raining down on us. Thanks, Katie.

Okay, that's enough from me. I keep thinking of more memories, but I'm going to stop before I steal all of yours. Now you all get to take a turn...please?

Luv u most! Can't wait to hear from you!
